Psalm 22:1
“My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?
Why are you so far from saving me, from the words of my groaning?”
The entire psalm is a reading for today, but for Christ, it comes down to this passage. Christ will use David’s Word on the cross with the weight of the world’s sin, the sin that alienates us from God. This sin, our sin, is taken by Christ, who feels the weight of that sin and alienation for us.
We know the rest of the story, but for today, we read the psalm and ponder our role in Christ’s suffering and death. We lift up prayers seeking forgiveness from God for rejecting the stone, a precious stone unlike any other.
Gracious Father, I pray for forgiveness for my sin and the weight my sin being put on your Son. Help me to know of the forgiveness given through faith in Christ, who suffered and died for me. In His name, Amen.
