Psalm 100
His Steadfast Love Endures Forever
A Psalm for giving thanks.
1 Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
2 Serve the Lord with gladness!
Come into his presence with singing!
3 Know that the Lord, he is God!
It is he who made us, and we are his;[a]
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him; bless his name!
5 For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures forever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.
Psalm 100 ends a string of psalms giving praise to God (Psalms 93, 96 - 99). The Lord in this psalm is all caps - LORD or Yahweh, the God of the covenant .(not shown in this because Outlook overrides grammar issues, like writing in all caps, so when I cut and paste, it changes it).
We give thanks after Easter and Pentecost because the God of the covenant has fulfilled his Word and extended his everlasting love through his Son, Jesus Christ. As a result of our baptismal faith, we are no longer slaves to sin, but now we are servants to Christ. Our service is through the fulfillment of the Great Commandment to love God first and foremost and to love our neighbor as ourselves through service to him. Nothing we did brought this about; it is the steadfast love of God that we praise (-ed) then, now and forever more.
For this sacrificial love, we give thanks and praise.
Amen
