1 Peter Week 6

May 17, 2026    Eric Hiner

This message challenges us to completely reframe how we view suffering and persecution as followers of Christ. Drawing from 1 Peter, we're reminded that when the world pushes back against our faith, we shouldn't be surprised or discouraged. Instead, we should recognize it as confirmation that we're living authentically as Christians. The sermon addresses graduates and believers at every life stage with an honest truth: following Jesus doesn't get easier with age or experience. What changes is our perspective. Rather than conforming to avoid conflict or getting angry at those who oppose us, we're called to extend the same mercy Christ showed from the cross when He said, 'Father, forgive them.' The most powerful insight comes from understanding that our anxieties and struggles aren't meant to be carried alone. We're instructed to cast all our worries on Jesus, and the reason given is beautifully simple yet profound: because He cares for us. This isn't just theological comfort but practical reality. When we face ridicule, isolation, or pressure to hide our identity in Christ, we have a choice between conforming until we no longer recognize ourselves or standing firm in who we are. The message reminds us that our real adversary isn't people who don't understand our faith, but the spiritual forces that seek to devour our confidence and identity. We resist not by fighting those around us, but by remaining firm in faith, connected to our community of believers, and anchored in the truth that Christ walks with us through every trial.
