A Psalm of Worship & Praise
1 Oh sing to the Lord a new song, for He has done marvelous
things! His right hand and His holy arm have worked
salvation for Him.
2 The Lord has made known His salvation; He has revealed
His righteousness in the sight of the nations.
3 He has remembered His steadfast love and faithfulness
to the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen
the salvation of our God.
4 Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth;
break forth into joyous song and sing praises!
5 Sing praises to the Lord with the lyre,
with the lyre and the sound of melody!
If we are singing a new song, what was the old song? The “old song” the psalmist is referring to is the Song of Moses (Exodus 15).
The new song? Revelation 5 says: “8 And when He had taken the scroll, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb, each holding a harp, and golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. 9 And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are You to take the scroll and to open its seals, for You were slain, and by Your blood You ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation, 10 and You have made them a kingdom and priests to our God, and they shall reign on the earth.”
The new song is Jesus Christ, the lamb who was slain and whose blood was ransomed. He reigns in heaven and on earth.
We pray: Gracious Father, Help me to sing and worship You with joy and reverence. Help me remember this new song as I worship You daily and in worship with others. In Christ’s name, Amen.
