God of True Peace

Dec 9, 2025    David Baldner

In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O Lord, make me dwell in safety. (Psalm 4:8)

David, king of Israel, is learning valuable lessons about leadership. He's learning that as you go about your duties, to God and country, you will have people who not only disagree with you, they will plot and plan against you and maybe even hope for your demise. In David's case, his enemies are God's enemies.

We aren't kings, but we are faithful to God as believers. When in the function of that do we have enemies? Daily, you may say, and I would agree. Even our own flesh is notoriously at odds with God's will for our lives. Evil dwells within us too.

Where do we put our ultimate hope and where do we find peace within ourselves? David notes in Psalm 124:8: Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.

In today's psalm, David says what we hope everyone in leadership says, "In you and you alone do I trust O Lord, and in you is where my peace is found."

Pray with me: Gracious Father, God of true peace and hope, it is tempting to rely on myself or trusted people and friends with whom I influence or influence me. I have learned that while trusted in an earthly sense, they are still flawed at times. Help me to turn loose and to turn to you and that with you, and you alone, can I place my full trust. Help me to remember at those times you are my only true sanctuary for peace. In Christ's name, Amen.
