God's Top Ten Wrap-Up

This message wrestles with two challenging biblical texts that initially seem to contradict our understanding of grace. The first, from Exodus 20, speaks of God visiting iniquity on multiple generations while showing steadfast love to thousands. The second, from John 14, declares that if we love Jesus, we will keep His commandments. At first glance, these verses appear to suggest we must earn God's favor through obedience. But the deeper truth revealed here is far more beautiful: God's commandments aren't burdensome requirements for salvation, but rather loving guidance for abundant living. We're reminded that while consequences of sin may ripple through generations, God's grace extends infinitely further—to thousands of generations. The call to obey isn't coercion or manipulation; it's an invitation into the best life possible. When Jesus says, 'I will not leave you as orphans,' He's promising us the structure, direction, and purpose that only a loving Father can provide. The commandments become not a checklist for earning love, but a roadmap to experiencing the fullness of life God intends for us right now, not just in eternity.
