Chicken Man
“Am I a God at hand, declares the Lord, and not a God far away? 24 Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? declares the Lord. Do I not fill heaven and earth? declares the Lord. (Jeremiah 23:23-24)
When I was a young child, I went with my dad on Saturdays on errands. The bank was a big stop for us, usually our first, in which we walked in, said hi to everyone we knew and did our business and left. In the car, the radio played on AM (solely, car radios were primitive back then and the stock radio was AM). There was always a radio show on Saturdays on our station, "Chicken Man," which was a comedy. The catch phrase about "Chicken Man," our superhero, was, "He's everywhere! He's everywhere!" as he sought to bring about justice, truth and security in these United States.
The Lutheran Study Bible study notes on the passage from Jeremiah are interesting, citing Luther. "Now, if someone has Him who fills all things, he has more than the whole world. He has the real Fountain, not merely a spoonful, which is what the world would be in comparison with this Fountain. ...when a man has Him who has more than He can give away, then his heart knows that he has a gracious God and all things in Him. What could such a heart ever lack?"
God Himself is abundance. He's All-Present or Omnipresent. He hears my prayers, your prayers, the world's prayers. His Spirit intercedes for us on our behalf to take all of our thoughts from our hearts and minds and shape them into words for God to hear (Romans 8:26).
God knows us (Psalm 139). God hears us. God responds to us. God is everywhere all at once.
Pray with me: Gracious God, Heavenly Father, You hear this prayer and the prayers of many at the same time. Your Spirit hears our groans and sighs and shapes them into words for You. You know our every need, and the needs of others. Where two or more are gathered in Your Name, You are present. I am humbled by Your presence and abundance. In Christ's Name, Amen
